Microsoft Build is an annual event that took place this year from May 19–22 in Seattle. Most of the conference focused on topics related to AI and its applications in Microsoft tools. Some of the panels were available online.

At the start of the event, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella outlined the updates to Microsoft’s developer tools. Of particular note is the release of the GitHub Copilot extension for VS Code and the transition of WSL to an open-source model—an important step toward greater transparency and collaboration with the community.
Azure SRE Agent
Microsoft has introduced SRE Agent—an intelligent assistant that monitors and manages Azure platform services: proactive resource monitoring, automatic problem detection and resolution, and health and performance monitoring.
Coding Agent
At the conference, a coding agent was demonstrated that can be used on GitHub to assign issues to it. An example was shown in which Satya Nadella assigned an issue to Copilot. The task of adding a search filter to a web application was described in detail and shown in a screenshot. Copilot successfully completed the task.
Copilot Tuning
Copilot allows you to create an AI model tailored to your company without the need for programming. Such an agent will specialize in specific tasks and possess specialized knowledge about your company. Users will be able to use pre-made task templates or define their own. After entering instructions for the model, we add data sources—these can be websites or files, and it can also be connected to applications such as SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams. Access is also configured for specific groups of employees.

Azure AI Founders
Microsoft also unveiled a new platform that enables the creation, fine-tuning, and deployment of AI applications and AI agents in enterprise environments. This can be applied in areas such as: building AI agents for customer service, sales, HR, and data analysis; creating AI applications to support business processes; customizing AI models to the specific needs of an industry or company; and integrating with other Azure and Microsoft 365 services. At the conference, an example was presented of using Azure AI Foundation to modify an AI agent used in a web application.

Windows AI Fund
Another new feature was the Windows AI Framework, which is an evolution of the earlier Windows Copilot Runtime. It offers Windows Copilot Runtime, Windows ML—an engine for running AI models locally, available on Windows 11 and later—AI APIs, and environments for training and fine-tuning models. Windows AI Fundry also offers the ability to test and deploy models locally, without the need for the cloud. Native MCP support on Windows was also announced.
At the event, Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott presented a new concept for the future of the internet called the Open Agentic Web. In this concept, websites are read and used by AI thanks to protocols such as MCP and standards such as NLWeb (the transformation of ordinary websites into AI applications with a natural language interface is used, for example, when searching for data on a website instead of using traditional filters or keywords).

The event featured online interviews with figures such as Elon Musk, Jensen Huang—founder of Nvidia—and Sam Altman—CEO of OpenAI. MS Build showcased the extraordinary capabilities of artificial intelligence, which is no longer merely an assistant but an independent task executor.
